Ashraful Aid Morocco Earthquake Humanitarian Response

Following the catastrophic earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale that impacted the region south of Marrakech, Morocco, on 08.09.2023. This calamity affected, claimed the lives of 2,954 and affected approximately 450,000 people, compelling an immediate response to alleviate the resultant distress and meet the basic needs of the affected communities.
Immediate Response and Actions Undertaken:
Arrival and Procurement of Supplies by Ashraful Aid:

The initial response team of three individuals arrived in Casablanca on 10.09.2023. They procured essential supplies on the same day and headed to Marrakech. Upon arrival at 11:00 pm, they distributed the first aid packages to needy families in the villages of Tedmit, Agbalu, and Ayd Talib Ali within the Amizmiz district. A total of 80 families received food packages containing rice, chickpeas, lentils, pasta, beans, and noodles. Additionally, 80 blankets and 2,160 pieces of clothing were distributed.

Extended Relief Operations:

On 11.09.2023, the team extended aid to the village of Taghenza in the Immaiss district of the Taroudant region, benefiting 80 families with food supplies, 80blankets, and 160 pieces of clothing.

Ground Feasibility Assessment:

Four members of our Partner Search and Rescue team arrived in Morocco on 11.09.2023 to assess the ground feasibility for continued operations.

Procurement and Packaging for Extended Distribution:

On 12.09.2023, procurement of additional supplies was done in Casablanca for distribution to 400 families. The items procured included basic food staples, baby food, and sanitary supplies. Packaging of these products was completed on13.09.2023, with distribution to 200 families planned for 14.09.2023.

Extended Support:

The following week saw further support extended to an additional 800 families, amplifying the impact of the relief efforts.
