Freestate, N3 Southbound, — Engen Vaal 1- Stop saw many smiles as Ashraful Aid passed out free meals to truck drivers on Thursday from 17:00 to 21:00. 500 meals were pledged by the N3 Toll Concession and prepared and delivered by Ashraful Aid all the way from Marlboro.
The team from Zimele Truck Stop also stepped in to hand out the meals in the latter part of the evening, so Ashraful Aid could take the road back to Johannesburg early.
Leftover meals were kept in the freezer to offer to Northbound 1-Stop for the next day. A real coming together, would sum it up. While lock-down regulations are put in place for everyone’s protection, we often forget about truckers who simply have to be on the road, hungry and away from their families.
Dup Du Preez of Zimele Truck Stop said: “One driver had only two small yogurts in his cab as his meal for the night”.
Ashraful Aid has been very active in supporting and providing relief to those in need during the lock-down. From sanitation efforts, water and cooking essentials to read-to-eat meals, turning donations into action.
