Update on Turkey

At Ashraful Aid, we have been working tirelessly to provide aid and support to the victims of
the devastating earthquake that struck near Kahramanmaraş, Turkiye on February 6th,
2023. Our response has been swift, and our teams have been actively working to provide aid
to families who have lost loved ones and thousands of displaced people.

We acknowledge that the need for rebuilding will be ongoing for a long while, and it’s
critical that our organization continues to provide support to those affected. Your ongoing
support is vital to allow us to ensure that the affected communities can recover and rebuild.

Our South African teams joined the response effort the day after the earthquake, and our
local teams have been visiting Gazentiep, Kilis, Islahiye, and Kahramanmaraş to assess the
situation and provide aid. We have also been providing aid through our bakery in Azaaz,
northern Syria, which produces 60,000 loaves of bread daily and provides 50,000 meals
daily.

We are also planning to provide additional aid in the form of warm clothing, generators, and
tents. Five temporary trauma centers will be established, with the facilities being purchased
in South Africa and airlifted to Turkiye. Furthermore, we are providing cash grants to
widows who are among the most vulnerable. Our team assesses the needs on a daily basis,
and we are already planning for the medium and long-term rehabilitation efforts required.

The positive support received from Minister Naledi Pandor and the engagement with the
Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) is also encouraging. It's vital
that the international community supports our efforts in any way possible to provide
necessary aid and support to the affected communities.

In conclusion, our ongoing support is critical to ensuring that the affected communities can
recover and rebuild in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake near Kahramanmaraş,
Turkiye. Our efforts to provide aid and support, including our plans to establish trauma
centers, provide warm clothing, generators, and tents, and provide cash grants to widows,
are commendable. We call on the international community to support our ongoing efforts
to provide aid and support to those affected by the earthquake.
